A radically open, local art competition in 26 bars, restaurants, hair salons, lobbies, auto tire service centers and other businesses in 1 square mile of downtown Dayton. Organized by the Dayton Visual Arts Center for the Downtown Dayton Partnership’s Summer in the City Series. Sposored in party by the DP&L Foundation, and the Ohio Arts Council.

People’s Choice Award

After 8,556 votes were talled, the People’s Choice Award was given to Emily von Stuckrad-Smolinski for her piece entitled Hope, a 2016 digital print. Emily has a passion for photography that straddles abstraction and realism. Of this work, she says, “Creating this work for Art in the City inspired my inner child by pairing my son’s preschool project and my passion for photography. Dayton artists are so blessed to have a community in love with art.” Emily holds a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology from Wright State University and is currently the Executive Director of Zoot Theatre Company. She lives in Dayton.
